Gauge changes more than density
Gauge affects the visual scale of a stitch, the weight of the garment and how a silhouette holds its shape. It also changes the way a yarn expresses itself, so a fibre choice cannot be reviewed separately from the machine and construction direction.
Use swatches to reduce guesswork
A small set of swatches can compare softness, surface, stretch and recovery before the full garment is made. The most useful swatch review records the yarn, gauge, stitch and finish beside the physical sample.
That record gives the team a shared reference when the conversation moves from an idea to a costed product direction.
