Preparing your first supplier brief?
Start with the bulk RFQ checklist, then explore the guides for each decision in your order.
Prepare a bulk knitwear RFQBulk buying · Jacquard reverse approval
Bulk jacquard sweaters: approve the reverse side before production
For a bulk jacquard sweater order, approve both the visible pattern and the reverse construction on a finished physical sample. Agree how carried yarns, stretch, comfort and potential catching will be reviewed; a front-view artwork approval does not define the inside of the garment.
Bulk buying · Garment weight
Bulk sweater weight: agree targets, size ranges and acceptance
A bulk sweater weight requirement should identify the finished garment, size, weighing condition and permitted range. Approve it alongside measurements and appearance before production; one sample weight or a mixed-size average cannot define acceptance for every piece.
Bulk buying · Receiving quality issues
Bulk knitwear received with defects: build a clear quality claim
When a warehouse finds a quality problem in a bulk knitwear delivery, identify and hold the affected stock, preserve evidence and compare it with the approved specification. Report what was actually checked before agreeing the scope, remedy, costs and completion date with the supplier.
Bulk buying · Embroidery approval
Bulk embroidered sweaters: approve artwork, backing and placement
Approve embroidery on the intended knitted fabric before releasing a bulk sweater order. A digital logo preview is not enough: confirm the stitched appearance, reverse side, finished placement and behaviour after the agreed garment finishing and care trial.
Bulk buying · Stripe placement approval
Bulk striped sweaters: approve pattern placement across sizes and seams
For a bulk striped sweater order, approve the colour sequence and stripe widths together with their position on the finished garment. Define which seams must align and how the pattern changes across sizes. One approved reference-size sample does not settle the appearance of every size.
Bulk buying · Order quantity reconciliation
Bulk sweater orders: control overproduction, short shipments and final quantities
Agree shipment quantities and any permitted differences for each style, colour and size before production. At shipment approval, reconcile accepted, allocated garments against the purchase order; extra pieces in one SKU do not replace shortages in another. Record the buyer’s decision on every outstanding balance before closing the order.
Bulk buying · Two-piece knitwear sets
Bulk knitwear sets: plan component quantities and complete-set delivery
For a two-piece knitwear order, define one sellable set and its approved top–bottom combination first. Plan and track each component separately, then count only complete, accepted pairs as ready sets. Total garment pieces alone cannot show whether the buyer can receive the ordered assortment.
Bulk buying · Customer-supplied yarn
Customer-supplied yarn for bulk knitwear: agree the handover before production
Before sending yarn to a knitwear factory, agree who purchases it, what the factory must check, which trial releases it for production and how shortages and leftovers will be settled. A delivery receipt confirms arrival; it does not by itself confirm yarn suitability or enough usable stock for the order.
Bulk buying · Request for quotation
Bulk knitwear RFQ checklist: turn a collection idea into a useful supplier brief
A useful bulk knitwear RFQ states what you want to make, how quantities are split, which requirements are fixed and which need supplier advice. Start with a reference, estimated quantity and delivery destination; add material, size, branding and schedule details as they become available.
Bulk buying · Multi-market garment labels
Bulk knitwear labels: approve fibre composition and care instructions for each sales market
For a sweater order sold across several countries, confirm the sales markets first, verify composition and care information, approve the applicable label artwork and a sewn sample, then allocate each version to the correct order lines. A shared garment specification does not automatically mean one label is suitable for every destination.
Bulk buying · Wash and performance testing
Bulk sweater wash testing: agree shrinkage, pilling and appearance before production
Before bulk sweater production, agree the sample identity, wash and dry procedure, measurement points, separate pilling method, appearance checks and written acceptance criteria. A test method describes how to test; it does not replace the buyer’s order-specific pass limits or production release.
Bulk buying · Production approval
Knitwear tech-pack version control: what to approve before bulk production
Release bulk sweater production against one dated, approved specification. Match the tech-pack revision to the sealed sample, yarn reference, measurement chart, order quantities and packing instructions, then record how later changes affect cost and delivery.
Bulk buying · Supplier evaluation
How to verify a knitwear supplier’s bulk order capacity
Verify a knitwear supplier against your order’s materials, approval dates and available production slots. Annual output and machine counts describe scale; request a dated plan for knitting, finishing, inspection and dispatch before confirming a bulk sweater order.
Bulk buying · Size-set approval
Bulk sweater size-set approval: measurements, grading and tolerances
Approve the ordered size range before bulk knitting: define measurement points, agree grading and tolerances, review size-set samples and separate finished-garment checks from after-care performance.
Bulk buying · Buttons & trims
How to plan buttons and trims for a bulk cardigan order
Build a cardigan trim BOM, calculate buttons by SKU, separate production loss from customer spares, approve attachment samples and prevent missing trims from holding up a bulk order.
Bulk buying · Staged delivery
How to plan staged deliveries for a bulk sweater order
Turn a bulk sweater order into controlled shipment releases: define each batch, work backwards from warehouse receipt, confirm capacity and agree approval gates before committing to launch dates.
Bulk buying · Comparable quotations
How to compare bulk sweater quotations on the same cost basis
Compare bulk knitwear offers using one approved specification, a clear inclusion list and the same delivery scope. Separate unit prices, one-time charges and buyer-paid costs before choosing a supplier.
Bulk buying · Reorders & shade continuity
Bulk sweater reorders: yarn dye lots, shade approval and reserve planning
Plan repeat sweater orders with a retained colour standard, usable yarn reserves and a new-lot approval process. Separate replenishment forecasts from commitments and trace shades through production.
Bulk buying · Packing & receiving
Bulk sweater packing specifications: cartons, labels and warehouse receiving
Define individual sweater packing, carton quantities, shipping marks and packing-list records before bulk production. Work through a partial-carton example and prepare an overseas warehouse receiving brief.
Bulk buying · Order quantities
How to split a 12,000-piece sweater order by style, colour and size
Build a bulk knitwear order matrix that reconciles every style, colour and size. Use a worked 12,000-piece example to check quantities, material conditions and purchase-order revisions before production.

Choosing yarn and knit structure together
